I considered ending the Roaming Rides. A lack of time will make you think that way. But I decided to press on, and today 15 of us gathered at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel to try out a new route.
Shannon Hills is a convenient departure point for a lot of routes south of Greensboro. Tonight, the idea was to ride to Level Cross (home of the Petty racing shop), then turn north toward Pleasant Garden and home:
South on Rehobeth Church Rd
R Old Randleman
Bear L on Old Randleman @ Kivett
L W. Steeplechase
R Davis Mill
Straight @ Hwy 62
L Randleman
L Branson Mill- Store (Exxon)
L Hunt
R Neelley
L Alliance Ch Rd (Hwy 22)
L Ritters Lake Rd
R Randleman
L Wolfetrail
L Old Randleman
R Short Farm
R Rehobeth Ch Rd
Total: 27.7 miles
A couple of great things about the route:
- The first half of the ride is mostly flat or downhill. You have plenty of time to warm up before hitting a long climb up Ritters Lake Rd.
- You spend a lot of time in the shade. Many of the roads are lined with trees, and on a hot day this ride would be hard to beat.
