WOM Gains Momentum

From Church of the Customer, news of a new report that indicates Word of Mouth marketing is gaining at the expense of traditional advertising. The top three findings:

1. The consumer is in control
2. There is a growing distrust of advertising messages
3. Empowered consumers are not just negative, they are fighting back

Yesterday I noted that public cynicism is going to drive future approaches to advertising. This is just another data point supporting that idea.
